BUNGALOW STYLE 1890-1940

The typical bungalow is a one story house with gently pitched broad gables. A lower gable usually covers an opening or screened porch with the larger gable covering the main part of the house. Larger Bungalows have intersecting cross gables. Bungalows usually have an exterior chimney. The siding is usually wood shingles which were originally stained brown. There are also some Bungalow constructed from stucco or brick. The construction style was made popular by the Sears and Roebuck catalog, because precut lumber, nails, and doors could be shipped to the site.
