Robert Rantoul, Sr.

 

Robert Rantoul Sr. was born on November 23, 1778 in Salem, Massachusetts and died on October 24, 1858 in Beverly. He was involved in the politics of the 19th century. He sat in the legislature from 1809 - 1820 and was elected to the state Senate and served from 1821 - 1823. Rantoul was a member of the State constitutional conventions and was involved with the Massachusetts Peace Society. He formed a total abstinence society. He led the way in the liberal religious movements. Robert Rantoul established a drug store in 1796 and it is among the oldest in the United States. This paved the way for others across the country.
