Cabot Street Cinema
Photo and Commentary by Elizabeth Boyle
The Cabot Street Cinema, built in the 1920s, represents
Beverlys interest in entertainment. Today along with back
in the 1920s, people wanted to go out and do things on
the weekends as well as weeknights. The Cabot Street Cinema
offers a place for people to go see a movie or a show. It was
built in the 1920s, or also known as the Jazz Age. This
was a time when the silent movie and Mickey mouse were created.
It was also the time when magic began to flourish. People began
to become interested in spiritualism which developed into magic.
The Cabot Street Cinema supported the new interest in magic
with Le Grand David and His own Spectacular Magic Company. Locally,
the Cabot Street Cinema represented the interest in leisure
and entertainment. Nationally it was parallel to the Raging
Twenties, a time when the arts and entertainment were at their
peak. Today it still represents the national interest in movies
and theater as well as the local interest in embracing a historical
landmark.
The Cabot Street Cinema is immortal. Since its construction
int eh 1920s, it has been devotedly restored by its non-profit
owners. Beverly takes pride in its historic landmarks, the Cabot
Street Cinema being one of them. The Cabot Street Cinema is
unique in that it has an "old fashioned" type theater,
with a balcony and only one stage/screen. Its exceptional character
brings exclusivity to Beverly, which will continue to restore
it for all to see.
The North Shore Music Theater, founded in 1955, also represents
a time in Beverly when entertainment was significant. Nationally
the 1950s or the Golden Age, established a feeling of
family togetherness. It was the end of World War II and families
were reunited wanting to spend more time together. It was also
a time of good, clean entertainment. The North Shore Music Theater
provided for this by offering musicals, concerts and children
shows. The roomy theater provided much room for families to
watch quality entertainment. Today this theater still represents
the popular interest in the arts and entertainment both locally
and nationally.
The North Shore Music Theater is both immortal and dynamic.
It is immortal in the sense that it will stay in Beverly forever.
It has had so much success in the past and has made quite a
name for itself, that the community of Beverly will keep it
immortal. Although immortal, it is also changing. North Shore
Music theater will always be expanding its structure along with
its technology. The purpose of the north Shore Music Theater
will be immortal while its appearance will be ever changing
with modern times.
