Beverly City Hall and Police Department
Photo and Commentary by Matt Clarizia
This is a photograph of Beverlys current City Hall and
Police Department. Our City Hall was originally a mansion owned
by Israel Thorndike, but when he died in 1832 the mansion was
left to the city and the building was then turned into a city
Hall in 1841. After a couple of years the police station was
said and documented to be built on as early as 1872. The building
has only undergone a few renovations since it has been built,
but for the most part stayed the same throughout the years.
It has been around for over 150 years already, and I feel will
be immortalized forever because for as long as Beverly wants
to maintain law and order in society, a City Hall and police
Station area necessity for they prevent chaos and keep Beverly
a safe environment to live in.
On a small scale, our City Hall and police department seem
ordinary. The City Hall does its job by holding local meetings
and so on, where the police enforce the law. However, on a larger
scale, Beverlys City hall and police station play a more
important role on a national level. One way our police station
is tied into something larger nationally is that in order to
become a police officer, one must swear on oath on the United
States Constitution, which connects all police officers across
the nation. Another way is because one of the governments
jobs is to protect and insure the safety of every citizen in
the United States. Little pieces of a puzzle millions of City
Halls and police stations just like Beverly have the same job
to fulfill the governments duty and protect everyone,
and Beverly plays its part, naturally by protecting people locally.
