The Beverly Depot
Photo and Commentary by Steve Gendall
The Beverly Depot has been open for travelers since September
in 1897 and is still just as active as to this day. The Depot
has been a useful contribution to the City of Beverly. With
a railroad system people are able to travel to Boston, Rockport
and Ipswich and any city between them extremely fast and for
a low cost. With the development in the Transportation Revolution,
Boston has become bigger and more prosperous by building railroads
to transport people. Many people know of the Beverly Depot but
most do not realize how much it represents Beverly. It was one
of the first train stations in America and it uses the same
building to this day. The Depot connects to the Transportation
revolution because with better technology we were able to build
railroads across America and Beverly has one of the original
stations.
The picture of the Beverly Depot that I photographed has an
Immortal quality to it. The building that was built back in
1897 is still standing strong. Although it may have changed
over the years and it may look different in older pictures it
is still the same building. The picture of the Depot that I
took is a snapshot of what it looked like in 2005. It is a picture
to look back upon any years later and to remember what it looked
like at the time. When the picture of the Depot was taken when
it was built Im sure no one expected the same station
to last more than one hundred years.
