Man & Machine

As the industrial revolution swept through the United States,
manual labor was slowly replaced by the work of machinery. This
picture depicts an almost extinct species of manual laborers,
the cobbler. It also shows the correlation between man and machine.
As the machine cannot work properly without the man, the cobbler
would have difficulty repairing the shoe without the machine.
