Landscape History :: Student Research (Fall 2003)

Since Beverly was originally settled in 1630 as the Naumkeag Settlement, the natural landscape has gone through many transformations as a result of numerous influences. Natural disturbances and human activity have altered the appearance of local forests, lakes, rivers, and plant life. The Beverly of today is much different from the Beverly of the 17th century. Through individual research on Beverly's first settlers, industries, development, economic change, original woodlands, stonewalls, and the original flora and fauna of the area, our class has comprised a detailed history of Beverly's landscape and its connection to broader history.
