These trees need a significant amount of sunlight , therefore they grow in open fields where no taller trees are blocking their light. These pastures are recently abandoned

White Pine

Grow out of hayfields , pastures , grassy fields

The white pine begin to grow bedore the pasture has been abandoded making them taller. They germinate in flat open land , and also require a lot of sunlight. The white pine end up replacing the red cedar because they block their light.

Shrubs

Grow in hay fields.

Shrubs sprout from cut stems. The stems from the hay fall into grass making shrubs grow.

 Aspen trees

Grow in cultivated open land

These plants and trees have to grow in cultivated land because otherwise livestock would have eaten them in early growth.
