Research at the Boston Athenaeum

African-Americans in Antebellum Boston

Stephen Nonack provided an in-depth tour of the Boston Athenaeum, as well as invaluable research assistance.

We contacted Stephen Nonack, curator of manuscripts at the Boston Athenaeum, for advice. He graciously invited the PATH students to use the resources of the Athenaeum on four Saturdays during the month of April and May. Mr. Nonack became both host and research guide during these visits. In addition to research, the students were shown all aspects of the library's operation, including how items in the Athenaeum's collection are collected, cataloging, and preserved.
